Lavender and Coral Galveston Texas Wedding at Hotel Galvez

When Greg cut his foot on a Memorial Day weekend river-house trip, Laura, who barely knew him, was urged by her matchmaking best friend to “‘fix his foot because I was in school to become a physician assistant,” she tells us. Little did Laura know she was taping up the tootsie of her future husband. Two years later, the pair wed at Galveston’s historic Hotel Galvez & Spa, amidst billowing white draping, lush lavender, mauve and coral flowers, and lots and lots of family. “The entirety of the wedding was very family oriented. The ceremony was written by our immediate family over a long dinner a week before the wedding. Greg’s father performed the ceremony, with my parents giving a reading. My matron of honor was my sister and the best man was Greg’s brother, who wore his U.S. Marines dress blues,” recounts Laura. And while Laura and Greg’s fancy moves—a result of dance classes prior to the big day—elicited oohs and aahs, another dance-floor moment at this Texas wedding was even more moving: “An anniversary dance was performed, with my aunt and uncle being the last dancing, with 43 years of marriage. Greg and I are always compared to this particular couple due to over a foot height difference between us, which my aunt and uncle also share; that was a special touch.” Congratulations to the newlyweds (and their long-wed relatives!), and big thanks to JW Baugh Photography for the pretty pictures!

Elegant Ivory, White and Black Persian-American Wedding at Hotel ZaZa

We admit it: We’ve got a soft spot for love stories that begin, “We met when we were 16 years old, at the mall.” Especially when they involve years of long-distance, on-again-off-again dating that culminates, finally, with the realization that you can’t and won’t live without your true love by your side. Such is the nature of Elly and Ryan’s relationship, sealed with heartfelt vows in a ceremony inside  Hotel ZaZa’s Phantom Ballroom that combined Persian and traditional Western rites and rituals. Following the ceremony, guests gathered in the ballroom’s foyer area where they enjoyed more than 10 different types of passed hors d’oeuvre while Hotel ZaZa’s expert staff, along with design pros from florist and decorator Plants N’ Petals, transformed the ceremony space for the reception. “Each of the 13 nooks in the Phantom ballroom was used differently,” bride Elly explains. “The center nook held the Persian sofreh while other nooks contained bars, couches and seats with cocktail tables, guest dinner tables, the six-piece band, and the two DJ’s.” Centerpieces of roses, peonies, hydrangeas and crystal candelabras topped the tables, where guests convened to rest and refuel when not dancing the night away. “Our wedding went even better than I could have imagined,” Elly says. “We had such a wonderful time!” And we’ve had a wonderful time sharing your day with you and Ryan. Thanks so much to John Ly Photography for the pretty pix—and congratulations to the lovely couple.

White, Pink and Lime Houston Country Club Wedding

Introduced by a mutual friend when the groom moved to Houston for work in 2009, Leanne and West “instantly clicked,” the bride says. Lots more clicking came one fateful eve when the two arrived at their fave Tex-Mex spot for what the bride thought was a regular ol’ Saturday-night date. We’ll let her tell the tale in her own words: “When I reached the top of the stairs, on the way to our seat, I saw a table on the landing with flowers, candles and a frame that said, ‘Leanne and West, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, June 16, 2012?’ When I turned around, West was on one knee with the whole restaurant cheering him on as he proposed. Before he even put the ring on my finger, the curtains to the upstairs flew open and all of our family and friends were there waiting to celebrate with us. It was fantastic!” Nice work, Mr. Gotcher. The pair’s June wedding, with its “crisp, clean, summery” feel and Who Made The Cake creations—including a surprise groom’s cake in the shape of West’s favorite boots—treated more than 500 guests to an evening of dining (chicken-fried steak and green-tomato sliders, anyone?), dancing and general merriment. Big thanks to Chris Bailey for images of this fresh and fabulous Houston wedding, and big congrats to Leanne and West!

You’re head over heels, you’re blissfully betrothed, you’re getting all ready to get hitched—let’s face it: You, love, are pretty much exactly the kind of girl Valentine’s Day was made for.

And here, love, are just a handful of our favorite Valentine’s Day gifts, goodies and indulgences, courtesy a few great Weddings in Houston partners—for you, for him, for the two of you together. Enjoy!

Here’s an idea: Knock off work early and meet your man for a romantic spa escape, courtesy Hotel ZaZa Houston’s decadent ZaSpa. Try a 50- or 80-minute Swedish-style his-n-hers massage with warm scented oils in the luxury of the spa’s exclusive couple’s room. Top things off with a private 45-minute soak in a deep tub for two. Reservations are required!

Next, slip into something sexy…like a stunning piece from one of Zadok Jewelers’ spectacular collections. Not sure what kind of jewelry you might fancy? Check out Zadok’s Valentine’s Day gift recommendations, courtesy CultureMap.

Dressed to the nines, and sporting your new bit of Valentine’s Day sparkle, make your way to Brennan’s Houston, for a sumptuous prix-fixe dinner of Louisiana-blue-crab-and-caviar crepes, Creole-mustard-crusted lamb chops and—what else?—your favorite French bubbly. Again, rezzies are a must…so make ‘em!

But you may want to skip dessert—that will come a little later, when you head home to snuggle up and hunker down with a to-die-for red velvet or white-chocolate-raspberry Nothing Bundt Cakes Valentine’s Day cake. Let him feed it to you (great practice for your upcoming wedding reception!), and let that ridiculously delicious butter-cream-cheese frosting make your toes curl with pleasure.

The rest of the evening, love, is up to you…

Happy Valentine’s Day!
