Rustic-Chic Amber Springs Wedding by Civic Photos with Bonus Hilarious Proposal Story

Sometimes, a proposal story just BEGS to be posted in its entirety. Vanessa and Brian’s is one of those: “We were on the Stacey family (Brian’s family) vacation in the Cayman Islands. It was our second day there and I was starving. I had a long day of trying to overcome my fear of large bodies of water and meeting the entire Stacey family. We hadn’t eaten since that morning so I was really excited about going to dinner. When everyone decided it was time to get ready, Cass (Brian’s sister) told me since it was the first night everyone dressed nice. So, I was thinking beach nice. You know, a dress, minimal makeup and windblown hair. I mean we were on a small island—how dressy can it be, right? Anyway, I get ready in the previous fashion and go downstairs to wait for everyone else to be ready. Once there, Brian tells me to go fix my hair and put on makeup. Rude! I was SO mad! I could not understand why he was so worried about my hair and makeup. But I ‘fixed’ my hair and makeup and this is when my pouting began. Everyone was finally ready and we were all piling into the van to go to dinner. I was still mad at Brian so I didn’t sit next to him. Instead I climbed in the back with Brian’s sister Becca. We are on the road almost to the restaurant when Brian’s dad drives right past it. I immediately popped up in my seat asking why we were passing the place we all decided to go to. Brian’s dad then tells me this is the best time to see starfish at Starfish Point so we were going there first. I said, ‘I am so hungry my stomach hurts! Why can’t we go another time??’ Everyone tells me we won’t be long so I sit quietly and pout some more. Next we pull into this sketchy lot and Brian, Michael and their dad go look for starfish (yay…). Becca, Brian’s mom, Cass and I are all waiting and I am complaining the entire time like a little brat. Then Brian’s dad comes back to the van alone. This made me even more of a brat because I knew we wouldn’t be eating anytime soon. Brian’s dad then tells us Brian found a starfish he wants everyone to see so we needed to go there. I look at Becca and she is so excited about seeing this starfish. I was so confused as to why she was jumping out of the van for a starfish and I told them I might just stay there while they went to find this starfish. Becca convinces me to go with them because of the sketchy field we were in. Did I really want to be alone in a passenger van in a sketchy field on a small island? No. So, I embark on this adventure to see a starfish. Not before I continued my pouting by slamming the door shut and slowly walking the quarter mile about 20 feet behind everyone. Once we finally find Brian and Mike, Brian’s dad tells Brian to show me that starfish he found. Brian jumps up out a bush and says, ‘What starfish?? I didn’t find a starfish.’ I got so angry. I said, ‘WHAT?!’ Brian recovers by telling me he found a sand dollar and to come look at it. In my head I’m thinking, ‘This better be a damn good sand dollar.’ So, I make a beeline for the shore to see the sand dollar so we can go eat dinner because I’m still starving. Yes, I know, BRAT! Brian says to me, ‘Hey what did you just walk through?’ I’m thinking, ‘Great, what now?’ Then I look down and see writing in the sand but because I walked through it I can’t make out some words. Brian then gets down on one knee and I am so confused for a second. He pulls out a ring box and says, ‘Will you marry me, baby?’ I started crying and hugged him and he was saying sweet things that I can’t remember now because I was in shock. Finally, everyone asks if I said, ‘Yes,’ and I say, ‘Yes.’ I told Brian I wanted two things for a proposal, to be surprised and to get pictures. He did a wonderful job because while the entire thing was going on his whole family was taking pictures and I had NO idea he was about to ask. It was perfect. Needless to say, I wasn’t hungry anymore. We went to dinner after to celebrate and I took my whole meal home. The whole time I was thinking about how blessed I am to have such a wonderful man to marry and to be joining such a loving family. The Cayman Islands 2012 is now my favorite vacation of all time because I left with the best souvenirs, Brian as my fiancé and the Staceys as my new in-laws.” As for the wedding itself, held at Amber Springs’ Stonebrook Hall, we’ll let Civic Photos’ fantastic pix tell that story. Congratulations, Vanessa and Brian, wishing you a lifetime of love.

To Do This Week: VIETRI Signing at Bering’s, Friday Oct. 4

http://www.weddingsinhouston.com/Professionals/houston_wedding_gift_registry/berings.aspx

Photo: VIETRA via Bering’s

Have you ever found yourself charmed by a particular trinket, art piece or houseware while traveling? Susan Gravely and her family did—and turned their infatuation with Amalfi-coast dinnerware into a thriving import business. Since 1983, VIETRI has been bringing Italian tabletop pieces to discerning customers in  Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia—and right here in good ol’ Houston, Texas, USA (among other states and cities). This Friday, Gravely herself will be at Bering’s, sharing houseware and entertaining advice, and personally signing VIETRI pieces—which, incidentally, have become a huge favorite on Houston gift registries. Pop into the Westheimer store on your lunch break—event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—for Prosecco and Italian sweets, and enjoy a gift with your VIETRI purchase.

Classic, Traditional, Blush, Green and Gold Houston Wedding at Chateau Cocomar

Looking absolutely gorgeous in her Lazaro gown, bride Corina wed handsome groom Eric in front of 130 of the couple’s nearest and dearest. And despite the heat of the summer day, Chateau Cocomar looked fresh and cool for the occasion, filled as it was with crisp linens, gorgeous blush and ivory flowers courtesy of Arteflora, and plenty of light-catching crystals. For all its elegant formality, this Houston couple’s wedding was also FUN, featuring dancing, sparklers, teddy bears…and a performance by none other than the bride herself! Our thanks to Lulu Lopez for the great photos, and our heartfelt congratulations to the lovebirds, Corina and Eric.

Fun, Festive, Fabulous Indian-American Wedding

“With you, things are the way they should be, and I would like to continue that forever.” Was a simpler or lovelier proposal statement ever spoken? Sigh. California-raised Jack wed Texan Nisha this summer, blessing his mom—finally!—with a daughter, after four sons. The pair’s 400-guest celebration, with its Indian and American influences (saris, mandap, cake balls, cocktails) was a feast not only for the palate, but for the eyes, thanks to Darryl & Co., who did up Bayou City Event Center in a swank wedding color scheme of black-and-white stripes with vibrant hot-pink and purple floral arrangements, gold accents and amber lighting. Just looking at Biyani Photography’s photos makes us wish we were at this incredibly fun and gorgeous Houston wedding. Thank you for sharing your special day, Nisha and Jack—we are so happy for you!

Lavender and Coral Galveston Texas Wedding at Hotel Galvez

When Greg cut his foot on a Memorial Day weekend river-house trip, Laura, who barely knew him, was urged by her matchmaking best friend to “‘fix his foot because I was in school to become a physician assistant,” she tells us. Little did Laura know she was taping up the tootsie of her future husband. Two years later, the pair wed at Galveston’s historic Hotel Galvez & Spa, amidst billowing white draping, lush lavender, mauve and coral flowers, and lots and lots of family. “The entirety of the wedding was very family oriented. The ceremony was written by our immediate family over a long dinner a week before the wedding. Greg’s father performed the ceremony, with my parents giving a reading. My matron of honor was my sister and the best man was Greg’s brother, who wore his U.S. Marines dress blues,” recounts Laura. And while Laura and Greg’s fancy moves—a result of dance classes prior to the big day—elicited oohs and aahs, another dance-floor moment at this Texas wedding was even more moving: “An anniversary dance was performed, with my aunt and uncle being the last dancing, with 43 years of marriage. Greg and I are always compared to this particular couple due to over a foot height difference between us, which my aunt and uncle also share; that was a special touch.” Congratulations to the newlyweds (and their long-wed relatives!), and big thanks to JW Baugh Photography for the pretty pictures!

Personal and Pretty DIY Yacht Club Wedding by Sarah Ainsworth Photography

A DIY wedding for more than 200 guests is no easy feat, so when you pull it off beautifully, it pays to have an awesome photographer—in this case the super talented Sarah Ainsworth—documenting it for posterity. Delane wanted to her wedding to Ryan to be both unforgettable and affordable…and with help from her mother, grandmother, Etsy artists and a few handy craft and hobby retailers, that’s exactly what it was. Using a palette of royal blue and beige with touches of rustic burlap and feminine lace, the bride and her helpers filled Lake Conroe’s Bentwater Yacht Club with sweet, vintage, and, most of all, deeply personal elegance. Homemade pies (the bride’s favorite), a duck-hunting-theme groom’s cake, heirloom jewelry, handmade centerpieces and a high-energy string band added to intimate, joyful atmosphere—and as for a ceremony backdrop, you can’t do much better than blue Lake Conroe sparkling in the background. Happiest wishes to the newlyweds!

Las Vegas Wedding with Cocktails, Dancing and…Bowling!

“We were in Las Vegas celebrating my 25th birthday with my family, and what I thought was going to be a regular day turned out completely different. Every time we had been to Las Vegas we always said we wanted to go to the top of the Stratosphere hotel, but it never happened, so this time we were determined to make it happen. I was pumped because I thought it would be hilarious to see him on top of the Stratosphere (he is terrified of heights), plus they have rides on top! When we started to go up the elevator he looked so nervous I started to feel bad, but he was persistent on going all the way to the top. When we got up there we were able to see all of the Las Vegas strip and the beautiful desert. As we were leaning over the edge he starts talking about the future and then mentions something about a hot air balloon, which grabs my attention, and all of a sudden I turn around and he is on one knee with a box in hand.” With a proposal story like that, it’s no wonder Houston couple Candice and Joshua chose to return to the scene of their engagement to make it official. Their Las Vegas celebration at the Palms Casino Resort’s Kingpin Suite is the very picture of vintage Vegas glamour and fun, and we’re so thrilled to have a chance to share it with y’all. Big thanks to Houston’s Adam Nyholt for the fabulous pix of this destination celebration. And congrats to the newlyweds!
