Sweet Spring, Texas, June Wedding by Ama Photography & Cinema

Selling cell phones might not be the world’s most glamorous job, but it can pay off—with a husband, for instance! It was on the floor of a Sprint retail store where Gesselle met her beloved John, the man she’d eventually marry in a lovely June outdoor ceremony followed by a fun-filled dining-and-dancing reception where burlap, orchids and candlelight played against one another for a perfect rustic-elegant ambiance. Big thanks to Aisha Khan of Ama Photography & Cinema for the lovely photos, and our heartfelt best wishes to the newlyweds!

Eugenia Couture 2014 Bridal Collection

Simply gorgeous is how we’d describe the new 2014 bridal collection from the mother-daughter design team at Eugenia Couture. Starting with classic silhouettes, Eugenia Couture adds delicate bits of sparkle, diaphanous overlays and sheer-illusion touches, along with exquisite lace and sumptuous beading, for an array of wedding gowns that are just made (and made in the USA in a zero-waste process, at that!) for the modern bride. Though the closest you’ll find them to Houston is in Dallas, for NOW, we predict that demand for these beautiful wedding dresses will ensure that they find their way into a local salon soon enough. For now…feast your eyes!

Q&A with Wedding Designer Todd Fiscus of Todd Events

Houston-Wedding-Design-Pink-Purple

There’s a new name in Houston weddings, and it’s Todd Fiscus. The renowned Dallas-based event designer recently set up shop in Houston, bringing his talent for lush, deeply personalized wedding celebrations—along with access to 60,000 square feet of spectacular stuff to bring your wedding vision to life. We got the scoop from the man behind Todd Events (who, incidentally, was recently profiled by none other than the “Wall Street Journal” for his innovations and leadership in the field of event design…so we’re in good company : – )

Houston Wedding Blog: You’ve had such great success in Dallas. Why bring Todd Events to Houston?

Todd Fiscus: Several reasons. It’s a great city, with lots of growth, and close to our corporate office. We are focusing only on the decor and floral side of our business in Houston, and not offering event or wedding planning, as there are some great planners here. So this is a growth strategy that we feel is in our wheelhouse. It is also a city where I want to make a home. I am getting married to a Houstonian so I want to be there more, and enjoy the friends we have there. I really like being in Houston!

HWB: Congratulations! So tell us, what do you love about Houston brides?

TF: The brides we have met and the great planners we have talked with see us as something new and innovative to the market. We like to consider ourselves trendsetters, and being in Houston allows us to try new things, and really stretch our creative wings.

HWB: Tell us a little about what a bride can expect when she hires Todd Events?

TF: We are a very unique company, with a lot of playthings! We have over 60,000 feet of inventory of incredible tabletop, stage facades, furniture and luxury rentals. We treat weddings more like interior design projects, so all areas are cohesive. We obsess over the little things! To me they make the real difference. Our floral teams I think are some of the most talented in the industry, and we are a tight production group. We want our client to be happy, but we also want the location that we are working in to see us as a professional group that knows what they are doing.

HWB: In one sentence, what is you signature style?

TF: Great design, great event flow, extravagant parties that don’t feel obnoxious, luxurious touches and very thoughtful details and decor.

Visit Todd Events to view photos, get contact details and find out who recently named the company one of the top 35 event-design firms in the world. Yeah, that’s right–the whole freakin’ globe!

T. Carolyn Fashions’ Terrie Martin on How Chinese New Year Affects MOB & MOG Dress Shopping

Your Thanksgiving dinner is still digesting, Christmas and New Year’s are looming on the horizon…and you have a wedding coming up. If you’re like most mothers-of-the-bride, you’re thinking, “Just let me get through the holidays, then I’ll start looking for my dress.” It sounds reasonable enough—after all, what are mothers always busy doing besides taking care of everyone else?

The problem is that there’s another holiday looming on the horizon that could put your mother-of-the-bride (or mother-of-the-groom) dress in jeopardy. I’m referring to Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year—officially the year of the horse—begins on Jan. 31 this year. I say begins, because unlike our single-day New Year’s celebration, Chinese New Year is celebrated for 15 days. Add to this the time spent making preparations for the holiday, and it can create  down-time of four to six weeks for Chinese factories, where the majority of special-occasion attire is crafted. This can easily turn a 14-week delivery into a 21-week delivery!

To put this into perspective, if you went shopping today and found a fabulous dress that you loved, and knew that it was the dress you wanted to walk down the aisle in—yes, mothers, you’re walking down the aisle, too—and the store had every size in stock but yours, you would be looking at a delivery date after Easter!

The takeaway is this: While your child’s spring or summer wedding may still seem very far away, know that by shopping now, during early December, you will have your pick of all of the best styles for those seasons. As an added bonus, you’ll really get to relax and enjoy the holidays with your family and friends knowing that your special dress is secured!
