Blush, Gold and Ivory 1920’s Inspired Wedding with Bonus Fake-Audition Proposal Story!

Oooo, honey, you KNOW how much we love a good “proposal deception” story…and Ryan popping the question to Melissa is one of the best we’ve heard! “My sister, who is an aspiring actress, will often go on auditions and invite me (the bride) along with her. I always go along for support, so when she invited me to come along to an audition for an independent film, I did not hesitate. The audition was at Hotel Derek, there were signs welcoming those auditioning, sign-up sheets, and she was even assigned a number. I prayed with her in the lobby and all of the staff were rooting for her! She was super nervous so she asked if I could come back and actually watch her audition. When we were given the OK, I entered the room, and saw Ryan standing there all dressed up while I stood there confused. My sister was gone, it was only us and he got on one knee. There were candles and rose petals all around. It was perfect!” Ah, the old sibling’s-fake-film-audition ruse…gets ’em every time. Even cuter? “Our families were in another room watching it all happen on Skype.” Aww. The pair, who met four years ago while both working as nurses on the same Houston Medical Center unit and quickly became inseparable, tied the knot this past spring, with a breathtakingly beautiful 1920s-inspired wedding, decorated in fine vintage fashion by Houston fave Darryl & Co. We’re so grateful to this adorable pair for sharing their love with all of us, and all y’all…congratulations, Melissa and Ryan!

Weddings in Houston “Whiteout” Party at La Colombe d’Or by Civic Photos

We are SO fortunate to do what we love…and LOVE what we do. And none of it would be possible without our amazingly talented and dedicated clients, who just happen to be Houston’s absolute finest wedding vendors and experts. Oh–and another thing: These party people know how to PARTY. Which they proved in grand style last week when Weddings in Houston hosted our annual client appreciation party at magnificent, historic La Colombe d’Or. This year’s theme? Whiteout Night with WIH. Guests arrived attired all in cool, crisp white, and enjoyed a fabulous respite from the hot summer night. Our BIG thanks goes out to La Colombe d’Or’s Ed Bodde and Steve Zimmerman for hosting this year’s festivities and indulging our guests with fine food and drink, to Darryl Murchison and BJ of Darryl & Co. for their exceptional event decor and styling, to Susie’s Cakes & Confections for the evening’s utterly decadent desserts, and to Jonny Black Productions for awesome music and entertainment. Check out pix from our fantastic fete, shot by super-talented Barett Henry of Civic Photos. And remember, every single one of these vendors is available to bring their magic to your wedding, as as they did to our lil’ ol’ shindig.

Blush, White & Silver Wedding at Sam Houston Hotel by 1 Cinema Productions

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Jessica and Andrew ~ November 15, 2013

“With a venue like this, it’s easy to do little and have a huge impact,” says bride Jessica of downtown Houston’s chic Sam Houston Hotel. “I wanted the wedding ceremony and reception to be soft, romantic and neutral, and my color palette”—a contemporary combo of gray, blush, white and silver—“reflects that.” You’d never know from viewing Jessica and Andrew’s wedding photos that the couple planned their wedding—with help of coordinator Sobi Qazi of Lion & Lamb Event Services—in just three weeks. But that wasn’t their biggest challenge. “The biggest challenge was having our guest count jump up by 70+ guests the week of the wedding,” Jessica says. “But it was an easy fix because I had the best vendors, who were able to work together and make it work.”

Pink, Cream & Gold Wedding at The Houstonian by J. Cogliandro Photography

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Marla and Ryan ~ November 9, 2013

Decidedly unromantic memories of their first high-school encounters—Ryan stepping on Marla’s foot at the homecoming dance, awkward eye contact in the halls—eventually led to magnificent memories of the most extraordinary occasion of their lives. Dressed in a stunning Austin Scarlett gown and matching custom veil, Marla wed Ryan in a church ceremony, then joined guests for dining and dancing at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa, in a romantic ballroom done up in dreamy shades of blush, pink, cream and gold. While the evening’s great music, late-night chicken and waffles, and flower-bedecked wedding cake all were highlights, “One of our favorite memories was sharing a dance with my grandparents, who have been married for 62 years and were also high-school sweethearts,” Marla says. “I don’t know if there was a dry eye in the room.”

Blush Pink, Gold & Ivory Wedding at Chateau Cocomar by DC Stanley

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Michelle and Chris ~ September 14, 2013

While Michelle admits that meeting Chris as a high-school senior “was not love at first sight, as I was not looking for a boyfriend,” her future husband’s persistence paid off. Seven years after they met, the couple joined together in matrimony, with an elegant wedding in Chateau Cocomar’s magnificent castle-like setting, complete with marble floors and twinkling chandeliers. Michelle’s chosen palette of soft neutrals and a hint of blush pink created an air of timeless romance—the perfect backdrop for the newlyweds’ first dance (Michelle’s favorite wedding memory), and every moment thereafter. At the night’s close, guests held aloft 20-inch-long sparklers as Mr. and Mrs. O’Malley shared a kiss.
