The oldest German Catholic church in Texas and the oldest wooden church in Galveston, St. Joseph’s was built by German immigrants in 1859.

Now unsanctified and open only for private events, this church is distinguished by its elaborately detailed, coffered wood ceiling, delicately painted sanctuary and handsome alters.
